Something wrong?

There's got to be something wrong when doctors are paid 2.6k when they start their houseman year and people who land jobs in banks start with an average upwards of 3K. Am I missing something here?

  1. Nothing wrong. The reason why they can be paid so little is because their education is heavily subsidized and they are bonded. :-P Their pay will start to balloon soon enough. You don't have to feel too sorry for them.

    This is market forces.

  2. Market forces backed by Supply and Demand. Why are footballers paid millions of pounds per year? I heard this conversation over the radio this morning. Apparently, because millions of people pay to watch these footballers play. Imagine a parallel universe where playing Chinese Chess replaces Premier League Football. It doesn't matter what the sport or activity, if the Demand is tremendous, millions pay to watch or have a piece of it, then the salary for that person is high.
